Today is Election Day! I hope everyone voted!
…Just Kidding. I personally did not
vote. The two candidates are Romney and Obama. So, who to vote for? The
Republican Romney or the Democrat Obama? How about neither.
My father just goes on and on
about how I have to vote, he fought for my right to vote, blah blah blah. What
right do I have? This is history in the making, every day is. But by tomorrow,
a president will be elected. Another person that will go into the history
books. Some people say they vote so they can have their say in history. What
say do you think you have? The overall decision for each state is decided by
the Electoral College in the US. Meaning, because Alabama is Republic, Romney
will win Alabama. What if I wanted to vote as a Democrat? Or what if everyone
but the Electoral College wanted to vote as Democrat? Nothing would matter. If
the Electoral College wants it, they get it; like a spoiled little kid in a
candy store.
There
are a few states that are “swing states.” And from what I have seen, there has
been nonstop campaigning in each of these states. I can’t imagine not being
able to watch a television show just because both candidates are continuously
running their ads, bashing each other. I would go insane! What would I do
without my Walking Dead?
But why
vote? What if you vote for the wrong person (that is, if you were in a society
in which your vote actually mattered). What if that person that you voted for
won? And what if that person causes so much death and destruction all over the
world? How would you feel then? You voted to put a killer into office. So,
would you feel responsible?
I am glad I have the right to vote, for some things. I know there are nations that do not give this right. I am thankful for this. I will vote for the topics in which my vote will actually count. But as for the rest, the parts where only certain votes actually matter, I don't see a point.
I personally
do not keep up with politics. I probably should, this is the country that I
live in so I need to know what is going on, but what is really going on? The
government is too involved in everyday life, especially media; they decide what
we see. Perhaps I am too suspicious and too wary.
But I have heard too many stories of the US covering up some of the awful
things they have caused.
Great,
Obama just won a state. He won Ohio. The people in the apartment right above me
are hooting and hollering. Its 10:31. I am in for a long night.
